ON THE WAY TO BUENOS AIRES
I twisted Kal‘s arm so he would celebrate his birthday on the cruise (on February 7th), so I arranged with the Hotel Dept. to have a small dinner with cruise buddies and a birthday cake. I invited Kal’s counterparts, Father John Vetere of Toronto and Rev. Dick Buzby and his wife Pat of No. Carolina, along Susan and her husband Elton from Massachusetts and Delray Beach, Florida. Susan is the water colorist on board the ship, with whom we had such great experiences together on this cruise; Elton assists her and is along for the ride…..just like me!
We took the elevator up to the dining room
and sat down to dinner. Here’s the main course:
That’s Kal on the left, next to him is Susan, then Father John, then Rev. Dick and wife Pat. I took the photo; that’s why I’m not in this one. I love these people, they are funny and kind.
Along with bringing Kal his birthday cake, the Indonesian waiting staff sang him 2 verses of HAPPY BIRTHDAY in Indonesian; it’s nothing at all like the one we know, but we’re familiar with it from prior cruises (one of the wait staff shot this for me!).
The chocolate cake had several layers and was REALLY dense, almost like biting into a bar of good Belgian chocolate. The wedges we cut were small because of the calories,(Kal is really the writer of this and of course, he is lying !!!!) but the cake managed to disappear by the end of dinner!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABY !
Buenos Aires coming up the day after tomorrow !
